Why I am here

I am a small time, but very passionate art collector. I am interested in the process of creating art, including the motivation and history. As an American I am conscious of that our artistic past, is much like our musical and general cultural one. African American influence has been the foundation of what is uniquely American, and has been exported around the world. I like the post modern perspective of many of the African American Artists on this page. They are interweaving historical beauty, pain and triumph with modernity which is filled with much the same.

Looking forward to the discoveries of the artists and collectors on this site, and am honored to be able to blog here.

Artistic Fission

organize a joint exhibition for his friends Matisse and Picasso. The reason for

the combined show was not just to showcase work which Apollinaire found

important, but also to show that despite different approaches to art, both

represented modernity, rather than competed for…

My father bought the first Najee Dorsey painting of anyone in my family, and as soon as he did, he took a photo and sent it to me. He knew that the jazz theme would appeal to me, but as my taste in art veered towards more abstract works, he wasn’t sure whether the style would touch me as much as it had him. The paint was thick enough that the photo didn’t do the piece justice, yet I told him that it would look great in his house, and that Najee seemed… Continue

Through the Lens of an American In Paris

In July of last year my wife, daughter and I moved from Brooklyn, New York to Paris, France for one year. Many of you may have visited foreign countries, and some of you have lived in them, and for all of you that haven’t I would recommend it. One thing that has happened to me, not intentionally, was that living abroad has made me more self analytical, especially in terms of my identity as an American, than I thought it would. The reason I didn’t expect this, is because I don’t tend to think of… Continue
