A Tribute to Elizabeth Catlett

The art world lost a pioneer last April with the death of sculptor Elizabeth Catlett. During her long career, Catlett also made tremendous contributions to the
art of printmaking, and was an expert in linocuts and lithography. Swann Galleries devotes a section of their February 14 auction to the work of this celebrated artist.

An outstanding example of Catlett's sculpture featured in the auction is Sister, green marble, 1971. There is also a fine selection of prints,
illustrating Catlett's versatility within the medium—from the iconic Sharecropper, circa 1952, to the joyous Dancing, 1990.
Throughout her career, Catlett elevated the subject of women, and her monumental I Am the Black Woman set from 1989 will appear at auction for the first time.

Swann Galleries is the only major auction house to regularly hold sales of African-American Fine Art.
The February 14 auction takes place at 2:30 PM, with previews February 9 through 14.
The sale catalogue is available online.
